To gain the wall jump skill in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you need to get your hands on Cling Grip, a part of the Ancestral Arts. Wall jumping simplifies accessing elevated spots a great deal, making it a must-have ability. However, the path to acquiring Cling Grip is tough, disorienting, and full of foes.

But don’t let that put you off! This guide will demonstrate where to locate Cling Grip and how to activate the wall jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Wall jump (Cling Grip ability) location in Silksong

Cling Grip, the power that enables wall jumping, is situated at the peak of the Shellwood area. This region lies west of Greymoor and Bellhart, and north of Bone Bottom and The Marrow. We’ll provide a thorough route breakdown below, but if you’re just after the Cling Grip’s position on the Hollow Knight: Silksong map, here it is:

Before you begin, it’s advisable to carry at least 100 rosaries. This way, you can buy the Shellwood map and unlock a resting bench later.

How to unlock wall jump (Cling Grip) in Silksong

Starting from Greymoor, head west beyond Halfway Home (the house of Nuu and Creige), and take down the Moorwing boss, which is in the bottom left corner.

Proceed west through Bellhart. You won’t be able to talk to the NPCs until you finish the "The Threadspun Town" quest, but it’s okay to do that later (make sure to rest at the bench, though). For now, enter Shellwood. In the big open space with platforms, go all the way to the left until you hit the opposite wall. Then, jump across platforms to the right and back up to the left to find an exit.

As you move upward, try to fill your Silk bar by defeating the smaller enemies before leaving the large room in the top left, because you’ll have to drop down into a boss arena. Instead of a single big boss, you’ll need to take down a group of smaller enemies:

First wave: Two poisonous flowers. Hit them (twice if you’re quick), then move away to avoid the poison explosion.

Second wave: Two stick bugs with daggers. Try jumping over them and hitting them with downward attacks, or — probably safer — use your tools.

Third wave: Two stick bugs and one poisonous flower. It’s hard to avoid the stick bugs’ attacks without jumping right into the poison, so try luring the stick bugs to one end of the room, jump over, and take out the flower first.

Before exiting this room through the western door, unlock the resting bench above the boss arena, right here:

In the room to the left, take the elevator to the bottom, then exit west to find Shakra and buy the Shellwood map.

After that, jump across the white flowers using a downward attack. In the next room, take the upward path on the left:

Leave this room through the top right, then keep going east, ignoring everything else until you reach a room with an upward and a downward path. Go upward, and you’ll find an elevator that takes you back to the resting bench. Take a short rest before moving up again and exiting to the right. Now you won’t have to jump across those annoying flowers again!

Next up: the Sister Splinter boss arena. Continue east until you can’t go further. Move up, to the left, and jump across the white flowers to reach the left exit.

The Sister Splinter boss mainly uses downward slash attacks while hanging from the ceiling, so be prepared to dash to the side. There are plenty of chances to hit the boss between her attacks, but move away as soon as she pulls her claws back in a “charging” stance.

To make this fight much harder, Sister Splinter will summon thorny branches to block your path. Even though her own attacks can destroy them, you might have to slash through them to avoid getting trapped under her. It takes two or three hits to break them.

Every now and then, Sister Splinter will spawn minions to help her. It’s best to save your tools and Silk-using attacks for these minions, because their presence makes it really hard to avoid the thorns and Sister Splinter’s slashes. Take them out as soon as possible!

After this boss battle, keep going west. You need to exit the next room through the top left, so drop down a little, move left, and go up again, following the white flowers.

Cross the water to the left, break the branches blocking the doorway, and keep going left. When you reach the left wall, go up to the right (break the blocked doorways like before), and exit this room through the top right.

Notice the large doorway right in front of you? Interact with it to (at last!) get the Cling Grip ability.

To perform a wall jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong, jump toward a wall as you usually would, but instead of falling down, you can press the jump button again to jump even higher.
